Talk by annette Senu Nizar on Sexual Harrassment
Club News

Meeting started with an invocation by Annette Senu Nizar on 8th November at Spice Villa ,Panampally Nagar.

Annette Michelle gave a formal welcome speech and introduced all the Annettes who were present for this Children's day special meeting. Annette Michelle also formally introduced Annette Senu, the speaker for the day.

Senu spoke about the various rights that women enjoy under the Constitution as well as several legislations. Specifically, the discussion was focused on Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and the Prevention of Sexual Harrassment Act, 2013. With the Prevention of Sexual Harrassment Act, the focus was primarily on the constitution of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in every organisation and it's composition.

The speaker also focused on the need to have sensitive and well-trained officials as a part of ICC to create a sense of trust and to ensure confidentiality of the proceedings are maintained.

The purpose of the talk was two fold. On one hand it aimed to create an awareness about the laws and the rights available to women. More importantly, the speakers also discussed several social issues, including stigma and ostracization of victims, and specifically culture which all perpetrate violence. It was an interactive session where in which members could clarify their doubts on this topic.
